On August 22, 2018, HBI is having its first Volunteer Day! Instead of writing best practice research articles, bolstering our extensive e-learning library, or providing revenue cycle optimization and denial root cause analyses for our clients, for one day we’re shutting down our computers and heading out to serve our community in a different way! HBI employees will spend the morning with Milwaukee’s Urban Ecology Center to remove invasive plants and pick up litter at two Milwaukee parks. In the afternoon, we’ll stock backpacks with school supplies for children at Sojourner Family Peace Center, and compile hygiene bags and distraction kits for those seeking services at Aurora Healing and Advocacy Center.
Just this year, our parent company, Decision Resources Group, rolled out a new benefit for all employees – eight hours of paid volunteer time off. HBI jumped at the opportunity to turn this great new benefit into a day of service and celebration of our colleagues. By the time you read this, we will have devoted over 500 hours to community work, resulting in park beautification to benefit all Milwaukee park-goers, 40 new backpacks stuffed with supplies, 50 packages filled with items to occupy the mind and time of a person seeking emergency care, counseling, emotional support, and forensic nursing, and 50 additional care packages for those same people who are in need of shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrush, and toothpaste because they may not be able to go back home for those items.
We are privileged and excited to be able to give back to Milwaukee, a city we love and a community of which we are proud members. I personally am excited for the opportunity to spend this time with my coworkers, to get to know them better, and to come back to work with new, deeper, and more meaningful relationships that will, no doubt, make me a better team member for HBI, and a better partner for our clients.
