In the past few months, I have been hearing a lot about organizations wanting to train staff on how to effectively resolve claims, interact with patients, have financial discussions with patients, and give holistic revenue cycle training.

While training and resources around these are very important, many organizations struggle to connect these training opportunities with the strategic goals of the organization.

For instance, organizations train their staff on the revenue cycle and how each department interacts and impacts the lifecycle of a claim. Leaders often leave out the big picture challenges facing the organization, such as industry challenges, regional challenges, common pitfalls, and how success is measured.

It has been proven that the more staff can understand the challenges threatening the entire organization, the more invested and engaged they will be. Every time I go on-site at an organization, staff always mention to me that they are interested in understanding how they impact the overall organization.

This methodology can also help to mitigate common pitfalls that occurring because multiple new perspectives are bringing ideas and solutions.

If leaders fail to share this information with staff members during training sessions, they are going to continue to struggle retaining employees, driving revenue cycle initiatives forward, and overcoming gaps in the revenue cycle.
